We are clay in His hands

It amazes me how little things I took for granted in my youth, like profound hymns, come back to comfort me in times of distress or trial.

I had started a post about this hymn last month when Kim posted about the loss of our baby Sarah.

I revived it today when I received the sad news of some good friends who have lost their first child in utero. My heart goes out to the Bennets for their loss and I pray that God will sustain them in this time of trouble.

--------------------------------

Whate’er my God ordains is right:His holy will abideth;I will be still
whate’er He doth; And follow where He guideth; He is my God; though dark my
road,He holds me that I shall not fall:Wherefore to Him I leave it all.

Whate’er my God ordains is right:He never will deceive me;He leads me by
the proper path:I know He will not leave me.I take, content, what He hath
sent; His hand can turn my griefs away,And patiently I wait His day.

Whate’er my God ordains is right:His loving thought attends me;No
poison can be in the cupThat my Physician sends me.My God is true; each morn
anewI’ll trust His grace unending,My life to Him commending.

Whate’er my God ordains is right:He is my Friend and Father; He suffers
naught to do me harm,Though many storms may gather,Now I may know both joy and
woe,Some day I shall see clearlyThat He hath loved me dearly.

Whate’er my God ordains is right:Though now this cup, in drinking,May
bitter seem to my faint heart,I take it, all unshrinking. My God is true; each
morn anewSweet comfort yet shall fill my heart,And pain and sorrow shall depart.

Whate’er my God ordains is right:Here shall my stand be taken;Though
sorrow, need, or death be mine,Yet I am not forsaken. My Father’s care is round
me there; He holds me that I shall not fall:And so to Him I leave it all.

Grandpa came to visit...

My dad flew into town this weekend to pick up a car for my sister. Not wanting to take the giant gas sucking 15 passenger van back to town for the 3rd time last week we drew straws to see which 2 girls would accompany me to the airport.

Becca and Lydia drew the short straws......

Rachel "cuted" her way into the car.

At the airport looking for Grandpa

Grandpa stops for a picture with the grandkids.

There were two more pretty lasses anxiously waiting at the bottom of the drive

They were welcomed into Grandpa C's lap for the ride to the house

Podcasts worth listening to

Dr. George Grant has a podcast up and running (since March but I just found it this weekend).

For your edification are a selection of Sunday School lessons taught by Dr. G as well as a few of his sermons and addresses to the student body @ Franklin Classical School where my brother and sister attend.

Hi Thomas!
Hi Abigail!

You can also check out the PodCast Alley page for a larger selection of podcast archives, including a lecture on the Da Vinci code that I'm looking forward to.

enjoy!

Warning - extremely violent mean prank

It's not nice. In fact it's down right mean. A guy breaks off a piece of lipstick and shoots his sleeping roommate in the head at point blank range.

How mean! How inconsiderate!

How funny. I don't know why...maybe its the way the poor chap screams from out of a dead sleep. If I can't get the embedded player to work then click HERE to see the video

A priest, a Rabbi and a Nun walk into a bar.

The bartender looks up and says ......

"Is this some kind of joke?"

Quotable Papists

This caught my eye on Friday as I was scanning google news

NEW YORK (Reuters) - The man in charge of Manhattan's St. Patrick's Day parade has fueled a controversy by saying allowing a gay group to join Friday's march would be like permitting neo-Nazis to participate in an Israeli parade.
In an interview with The Irish Times, parade committee chairman John Dunleavy defended the organizers' decision to bar the Irish Lesbian and Gay Organization from participating in the biggest St. Patrick's Day party in the world.
"If an Israeli group wants to march in New York, do you allow neo-Nazis into their parade? If African-Americans are marching in Harlem, do they have to let the Ku Klux Klan into their parade?" Dunleavy was quoted as saying.
"People have rights. If we let the ILGO in, is it the Irish Prostitute Association next?" he said.

Zorro and Proverbs

Proverbs 26:27
Whoever digs a pit will fall into it, And he who rolls a stone will have it roll back on him.

I didn't think they had much in common. Really would you ever put Zorro and the book of Proverbs together? Perhaps a little context is in order.

Last night we watch the new swashbuckling adventure The Legend of Zorro. Boy was it a hit! Sword fights, bullwhips, wildhoirse chases --- totally full of high adventure and excitment. You could feel the tension building as we neared the end of the movie and Zorro finally began serving up a much need dose of his own medicine to the antagonist. We get right to the end and just as the bad guy is flung to his fiery doom I hear Lydia lean over and say almost smugly to Megan and Natalie

"See he fell into his own pit!"

"Yeah:" they agree knowingly "he DID fall into his own pit"

These are the moments that make it all worthwhile.

She spelled it Phonetically

I had the 4 year old mite with me at work today. We get along smashingly but it can be a bit of a struggle to keep her productivly busy. I was having her color some alphebet coloring pages at the desk next to me. I guess it was a little bit beneath her -- she's mastered her vowel sounds (mostly) and is working on the consonants.

She flipped the "A is for apple" page over and began writing "words". After a few minutes with no small amount of satisfaction she announced "Dad I spelled Lydia"

I looked down and was immediately perplexed. All I saw on the page was 3 letters L T U. Not wanting to crush her enthusiam I used the age old "have the kids explain it so you don't make the kid feel dumb" tactitc.

Apparently I wasn't looking at it phonetically. "Daaad" she sighed "look- its Li-Tee-Uh"

OOOOOh Lydia. Silly me. Posted by Picasa

It's in my blood ...what can I say?

Tip of the hat to Barry K. for alerting me to this.

I never had any doubt about it...Texas is in my blood!

You Are Austin

A little bit country, a little bit rock and roll.
You're totally weird and very proud of it.
Artistic and freaky, you still seem to fit in... in your own strange way.
